9 Earths
This installation is a collaboration between Michael Domingue, a Green Party town councillor for Hexham and Paul Digby, a Leeds-based artist, with support from Joe Coroneo-Seaman, an environmental journalist and writer at Edinburgh Climate Change Institute; John Seaman, a retired science teacher and education adviser; and David Dixon, a retired head teacher, the Tynedale bicycle mayor and a sustainability consultant for schools in the North East. The installation, commissioned by Michael Domingue, features nine sculptures of the Earth, each depicting an aspect of the global environmental crisis. Paul Digby, a former student of Queen Elizabeth's High School in Hexham, was commissioned to create the sculptures. His process began with the creation of an initial clay model, from which a silicone mold was made. This mold was then used to cast the nine individual Earth sculptures, which have since been adapted to visually represent various consequences of climate change and destruction of nature. Through this collaborative effort, Digby and Domingue aim to create a direct and impactful visual commentary on the effects of global heating, bringing this critical issue to the forefront for public consideration.
